Indiana Lamplighter Memorial Fund
The Lamplighter Fund was established in memory of Jo Ann Laice Whitis who was named Indiana State Woman of the Year in 1973. She died during childbirth, and the Jo Ann Whitis Memorial Fund was set up by the Evansville Regional Council of Beta Sigma Phi. The fund was intended to be available to sorority sisters who needed financial help during a difficult time in their life. In October of 1983, the Indiana Lamplighter Memorial Fund was named the States Permanent Secondary State Project.
Any individual, chapter or city council may make a request for financial aid for a sorority sister. Forms are available from any state officer or you can email communications as found at the bottom of this web site. All applications are reviewed by the Board of Directors, which is made up of representatives from Evansville's chapters and two chairpersons, secretary and treasurer who are elected every two years. All financial requests are confidential and recipients do not need to repay this money, since it was intended as a gift.
During Ways and Means at state events, look for the booth that has a street light lamps on the table and a sign that says "Split the Pot." Other means of support are through donations from chapters, individual members or from state events. Thank you for your support and donations.
